Maxims Home Town Hotties contest.
Thousands of girls enter Maxim’s Hometown Hotties Contest, presumably some with cell phone pictures, and only 1000 of the hottest girls are chosen to be in the contest. Each competes agains 100 other models for votes for 1 week and those who receive the most votes move on to the next round called the semi fianals. 1000 girls start the contest to produce 100 semi finalists who compete to be one of 10 finalists with ONE winner.
Canada has been allowed to enter this maxim contest for only the last few years. In the past some of my models had entered on thier own and simply vanished and i never knew why. Last year I learned through communicating with one of my models entered that maxim needed MORE images and video from every model entered who moves on the the semi finals.
So this year i set out to help a few and hopefully make it easier for them to move along in the contest.
At this point with two weeks left of the ten week initial phase i have these three entrants who were accepted.
Kayla – has moved on to the semi finals and
Opal – may yet be an alternate
Tianna – still in the voting
VOTING is finished

I went for a short trip from downtown Vancouver to the suburb city of New Westminster. Have not been out that way for many years or at least have not spent much time there. I had planned to shoot non stop but for a twisted ankle, rushed and hurried schedules, terribly uncomfortable weather, transportation issues with a more remote location, and maybe some anxiety with a new model I ended up with some free time on my hands. So I got a chance to walk around town in the rain and cold wind in what appeared to be almost ghost town. Relative to the clamber of people in the larger city, there was really not much activity on the streets at all so it was a interesting change and somewhat of a surprise. But i did get to find the pizza i craved and a good coffee shop to supply me wiht what i needed.
The shoots were fun and with two beautiful and talented models i know well and very much enjoy shooting with. The last shoot was this morning so they are not yet fully edited and ready for presentation but here are some examples. More will be provided at a later date.
I added a new page to the Articles – F.A.Q. section of the site.
It is a list of tips I found on the net that describes the styles of images a model should seek to add to her professional portfolio. Based on a description of those photos that will work well to help obtain jobs for the model.
It is at: Quick Tips to help models get started and get work.
Until i have had a chance to complete the latest shoot here are a few additions to tease you
The Sandra Wickham Fall Classic
Saturday, November 14th, 2009
I went to the Sandra Wickam Fall Classic, at Massey Theatre in New Westminster and enjoyed the show. Lots of amazing athletes and physiques.
I took some video while i was there, from way back in a row near the back of the theater will lots of heads popping up and down throughout each clip. So these are unedited raw shots i thought i might share.

Once in a while a good image comes along to help me illustrate a variety of things.
In this case i can illustrate a difference between glamor photos and Fitness photos.
Glamour or Glamor shots are intended to create a softer look with fewer shadows which compliment facial features and in doing so may soften the physique as i did in this case. While Fitness photos tend to be harsher or be processed with a more contrast which highlights the musculature of the physique.

Glamour vs Fitness
To me it is important for the viewer and client to understand that what we see in a photo is not necessary what we get in real life. Glamor photography may use makeup artists to help highlight features, hair dressers to create wonderful hair where there was a mop head, and lighting to soften or accentuate features, wardrobe such as shoes that may elongate the leg, shooting angles that will take advantage of perspective to favorably represent dimenshions, and then we may decide to do some touch up in photoshop.
Even when the original is wonderful and seemingly has no flaws or need for correction there is still an opportunity to enhance the finished photo with some editing and adjustments.
I hope you enjoy these little blurbs as i hope to spend a little time on this site wtth thoughts like this.
